Pass Vaccinale, Anti-Covid app

 The Anti-Covid app is quite well-designed.  It stores the user's covid-vaccine status within a QR code that then is readily checked by any shop-owner or museum-clerk, et al.    But, how to get our pass vaccinale, as we received our vaccines in the US, where things are not so automated...

First my note to some friends in France:

Et maintenant, il faut déterminer le procès pour convertir nos cartes vaccinales américaines aux passes sanitaires numériques!  Nous avons pris, bien sûr, les trois doses Pfizer; mais le gouvernement des états-(des)uniens n’est pas si avancé que La Belle France. ..pas de code-QR, seulement les cartes (ou les photos des cartes) comme au 20ème siècle! 

We got the pass vaccinale at the https://pharmacies.pharmaciengiphar.com/nouvelle-aquitaine/lot-et-garonne/beauville/pharmacie-des-arcades-875

though the pharmacist was quite unsure about the process.  

He mistakenly entered my last-vaccine year as 1921!  

This was not uncovered until a few days later when the pass triggered an "invalid" response at a museum – 

fortunately the docent shrugged and let us go; we returned to the pharmacy later and he semi-apologized and took many minutes figuring out how to update my pass and reprint a valid version of the QRcode.

(yes, in French it is a "QR code"  not a code QR)


We drove to Beauville in the afternoon, and got our Pass Vaccinal authenticated at the pharmacy. Fortunately there were no other customers at the time, as it took the kind pharmacist a while to remember how to do the official task. In the end, he was successful, so we have the proper QR code on our AntiCovid app! Perhaps we will go to Chateau de Strialis tomorrow for lunch!

While in Beauville we met Anne from Laroque (with her elderly Scottish Terrier) – after chatting a bit she said “Charles knows everything about Beauville” . We also took a walk around Beauville, using one of your randonnée papers. We were particularly intrigued by the story of the Jardin des Indiens. As the épicerie in Beauville was closed this Wednesday afternoon, we drove to Laroque, to the CarrefourContact shop.

EUA: tanto estrago em tão pouco tempo

 As part of my effort to learn about Portugal, both the country and the language, I'm subscribing to the centrist newspaper, O Publico .  There are plenty of newspapers: conservative tabloids, and socialist and communist-sponsored daily papers; I find O Publico to be most sober, with consistently interesting columnists and opinion pieces, in addition to some local (Porto) news, with just enough sporting news to keep me chatting with the taxi driver.   Today's opinion piece sums up, I think, European pundits' view of the U.S. government.  As the title puts it: so much damage in so little time.  I shudder at the rank incompetence and corrupt behavior, demonstrating a cynical attitude toward public service, showing indeed that the cruelty is the point. What scandal, what damage will be the tipping point to collapse this government?   And what will it take to recover from the damage?  Who will be able to trust the US government again, ever?   Only ni...

Captain America dominates the news, in many ways

KoreaTimes newspaper of April 5, 2014:  the front page features five items: a photo of the Avengers2 film shoot, with Captain America posed on the set; four stories with these headlines:   Japan adopts absurd claims in textbooks ; Obama plays favorites ; Ortiz’s selfie makes White House uneasy ; and ‘US knows japan at fault on row with Korea’ … all about America and Japan!  (Obama is said to be favoring Japan -- he even supposedly pressed the Virginia governor to veto the bill requiring Virginia textbooks to add the name “East Sea” to Sea of Japan!). And the Avengers2 filmshoot dominates public talk -- students and teachers alike discuss sightings of the film crew or actors, and the resulting traffic delays at the bridges in use. But it is considered worth the effort, to show the world that Korea is a hip, modern place, worth the effort for Captain America to defend against the villains (from the north, perhaps?).
